An Indian national was among those killed in an attack on a Shia mosque in Wadi al-Kabir, near Oman's capital Muscat. This was informed by the Indian Embassy in Oman on Tuesday. A total of six people were killed on Monday night when three gunmen attacked the Imam Ali mosque, a Shiite holy shrine. Four of them are Pakistani nationals and one is an employee of the Omani police. 28 people have been injured. All three attackers were shot dead by police.
The Royal Oman Police said that at the time of the attack, citizens of many Asian countries had come to attend an event at the mosque. An investigation has been launched to ascertain if any terror outfit was behind the attack. Many pilgrims were trapped inside the mosque at the time of the attack. They were later rescued, police said.
