The Olympic drums have started beating. The Greatest Show on Earth begins in Paris on July 26. A total of 117 athletes will represent India. However, less number of Indian athletes will participate in this year's Olympics than in 2021. The list also includes the likes of Neeraj Chopra and PV Sindhu. From Bengal, Kolkata's Ballygunj resident, sportsman Anush Agarwal will also participate in the Olympics.

Athletics has the largest number of members in the Indian contingent for the 2024 Olympics. A total of 29 Indians will participate in the track and field event. The most notable name in this list is Neeraj Chopra. There are also medal hopefuls Kishore Jena in javelin and Parul Chaudhary in steeplechase. Shot putter Abha Khatua qualified from Bengal but this time she is not going to Paris. There are questions as to why the Bengal athlete was left out.

There are also 21 shooters in the Indian team. Mirabai Chanu is India's lone representative at the Tokyo Olympics. She won a silver medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Anush Agarwal from Baliganj is India's lone representative in Equestrian. Vinesh Phogat, one of the prominent faces of the wrestlers' movement, will also take to the wrestling mat in Paris. PV Sindhu, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty are the other Indians in the fray. Boxers Nikhat Zareen and Lovlina Borgohain are also part of the team.

Sindhu and Sharath Kamal will be India's flag-bearers at the Tokyo Olympics. For the first time, the number of athletes and coaching staff of India in the Olympics will be almost equal. The Games Village will have 11 members, including India's Chef de Mission Gagan Narang. In addition, 10 additional officials will travel to Paris.
