The army chief has announced the formation of an interim government in Bangladesh. It is still unclear what role the military will play in the government. However, Walker's confident demeanor seems to indicate that the remote will be in the hands of whoever gets the mattress. Waqar is also a relative of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.



Who is this Walker? According to media reports, Waqar was born in Dhaka in 1966. Bangladesh is still a dream. Bangladesh Military Academy (BMA). He studied at the Defence Services Command and Staff College in Mirpur. He also trained at the Joint Services Command and Staff College in England. According to the Bangladesh Army website, Waqar received his higher education at the National University of Bangladesh. Later, he completed his Masters in Defence Studies from King's College, University of London.



He is married to Kamlika Zaman. According to media reports, Kamalika is the cousin of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. His father, General Mohammad Mustafizur Rahman, was also the Chief of Army Staff of Bangladesh. Mustafizur was in the post from 1997 to 2000.



According to media reports, Waqar joined the Bangladesh Army in 1985. He has also served as a UN Messenger of Peace. He was promoted to the post of Bangladesh Army chief on June 23 this year. His term of office is three years. General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed has been appointed as the acting chief of army staff. He was the Chief of Army Staff of Bangladesh Army for six months before taking over as the Chief of Army Staff. At the time, he was also working as a detective. It was Waqar who decided what role Bangladesh would play in the UN peacekeeping operations. Before that, he served as the chief of Bangladesh Infantry, an independent infantry brigade and a division of the infantry. Waqar also played an important role in the army headquarters.



Sheikh Hasina was the principal staff officer of the Bangladesh Armed Forces. Therefore, it is ready to take important decisions regarding the country's security strategy. According to the Bangladesh Army website, Waqar has contributed to their modernization. For three consecutive years since 2014, Commander Waqar of Bangladesh's Victory Day Parade has also been awarded the 'Sena Gaurav' (SGOP) and 'Extra Ordinary Service' medals.



It is this Waqar who has virtually shouldered the responsibility of the country that Hasina has left. That's what happened in the nine-minute press conference. Earlier, he held discussions with the leaders of different political parties of Bangladesh. At the press conference, the army chief assured, "I am giving you my word. Don't despair just yet. We will fulfill all your demands and restore peace in the country. " He also promised justice for those killed during the protests. According to an international expert, the rate at which he fulfilled his promise at the first opportunity, Waqar's name will be pronounced as the new 'Roopkar' of Bangladesh in the coming days, but it is not surprising.
