Abhijit Ganguly's first speech in the Lok Sabha was marred by controversy. He was involved in an altercation with Congress MP from Assam Gaurav Gogoi on Wednesday. Former Calcutta High Court judge Avijit Ghosh had called Gaurav "stupid."

Abhijit, who won his first Lok Sabha election from Tamluk in East Midnapore, was given an opportunity by his party BJP to participate in the budget debate. But as soon as he started his speech on Wednesday, Gaurav allegedly called him in refference, by the name of Nathuram Godse, the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi. Abhijeet replied, "Don't talk like a 'nirbodh' (stupid) person. "

"In an interview to ABP Ananda after joining the BJP in March last year, he had said," "Gandhi or Godse?" ' In response to the question, Abhijit said, I will not answer this question now. " Gogoi had bought up that issue today to which the MP retorted fiercely. The opposition members protested at this. "They demanded from Speaker Om Birla that" "stupid" "is an" "unparliamentary word" "as per parliamentary rules." Therefore, it should be removed from the agenda of the Lok Sabha. The Speaker assured to consider the demands of the opposition to bring the situation under control.
