1 crore Hindus coming to Bengal: Suvendu Adhikari on Bangladesh crisis

West Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari on Monday made a big remark as he asked people to "get ready" for over 1 crore Bangladeshi Hindus coming to India.

The BJP leader's remark came following Sheikh Hasina stepping down as Prime Minister of Bangladesh and leaving the country.

"Hindu minority is being killed in Bangladesh. The councillor of Rangpur was killed. In Sirajganj, 13 policemen were killed, out of whom nine were Hindus. Get ready, 1 crore Bangladeshi Hindus will be coming to Bengal," Adhikari said during a media interaction.

The Leader of Opposition in Bengal also urged Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose to speak to the Centre about the issue.

Notably, four people died in Bangladesh's Rangpur in recent clashes. Haradhan Roy, president of the Parshuram Thana Awami League and councillor of Ward 4, was one of them, reported Daily Star.

Bangladesh has been in a state of unrest for weeks now with students protesting against a quota for government jobs. The country is now witnessing a political crisis with Sheikh Hasina quitting as Prime Minister.

Hasina's flight landed at the Hindon air base in Ghaziabad, and she was received by Air Officer Commanding (AOC) Sanjay Chopra. It is speculated that she may depart for London next.

Thousands of protesters stormed her residence in Bangladesh on Monday following reports of her resignation and departure from the country. The statue of her father Sheikh Mujibur Rehman was also vandalised by protesters.
